i for you
by Aly Gerdes

then suddenly, every song

became about you

and i found you in between

the lines of every book i read.

i’ve yet to meet a rose that

smells as sweet as you

or to hear rainfall that

speaks as smooth.

never has there been a

more graceful melody

than that of the words

you said to me.

limestone can’t hold a candle to the strength of my love and canyons don’t compare

to its depth.

i’m not in the business

of denying myself the truth;

so, i’ll speak these words

until color holds no hue.

what i believe to be self-evident is that an abundance of things fall:

tears from eyes,

snow from skies,

leaves from trees,

the roman empire

and troy,

but above all else,

i for you.
